Rehearsals and members' information

Membership of the orchestra is by invitation for players of a high standard. If you are interested in joining and do not know any Salomon members, come along to our next concert and introduce yourself, or email us with your details.

Rehearsals are held 2-3 weeks before each concert. Players are expected to attend all rehearsals to which they are called.

Rehearsal venue names below are in shortened form as full details are on the fixing sheet.

Future Programming

Ultimately programming is based on what the orchestra members wish to play, but there are a variety of factors governing the final programme choices, including:

  • How pieces fit together to make a programme

  • Enthusiasm of conductors for the pieces we put forward

  • Engaging all sections of the full symphony orchestra over the course of a season

  • Attracting sufficient audiences to keep funds for future series healthy

  • How recently we last played a piece

  • Building on our ability to give convincing performances of pieces too complex for many bands

  • Cost of soloist/piano/instrument/venue hire.

Members are invited to make suggestions for pieces and programmes of interest and suitable for the orchestra. Remember to include your name and instrument, and any comments as to why you think the piece will be of particular interest to you and the orchestra. All suggestions will be considered, but please bear in mind the complex set of factors which lead to the final choice of programme.
