Next concert: romantic music for St. Valentine's evening
Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet includes the exitement of the sword fight and the most famous and glorious of love themes.
Liszt's daughter Cosima Wagner woke up on Christmas morning 1870, the day after her birthday, to the sound of the Siegfried Idyll played on the stairs of the Wagner's villa Tribschen in Lucerne. A wonderful romantic present in the place Wagner described to King Ludwig II as "a magic world: I know of no more beautiful place on earth, none homelier than this".
Sibelius' second symphony has wonderful melodies evoking his beloved Finland, although it was conceived in Italy and the main theme for the Andante was inspired by Don Juan.
