JESSICA BURROUGHS – CELLO
Walton Cello Concerto October 2006 Born in Haworth, West Yorkshire Jessica Burroughs began her studies aged nine with Mary Cawood going on to win scholarships to Wells Cathedral School and the Royal Northern College of Music where she studied with Karine Georgian under a ABRSM Home Scholar Award and scholarships from PO/Martin Musical Scholarship Fund, Countess of Munster Musical Trust and Craxton Memorial Trust. Jessica has won awards from the Making Music Young Concert Artists, the National Federation of Music Festivals and first prize in the British final of the European Music for Youth Cello Competition, subsequently playing in the European finals in Oslo, Norway. She has also participated in masterclasses with numerous International Artists such as Bernard Greenhouse (Kronberg Cello Academy), Lluis Claret (RNCM Cello Festival), Alexander Baillie and Ralph Kirschbaum. She is in regular demand as a soloist and chamber musician with performances taking her all around the globe including festivals such as Paxos Festival, Texas Music Festival, Academie de Musique de Sion Switzerland, Gloucester Three Choirs Festival, Aberystwyth Arts Festival, Chelsea Festival and the Lake District Summer Music Festival. Jessica has most recently given three performances of Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations and two performances of Schumann Cello Concerto as well as a performance of Martinu Concertino for Cello and Wind as part of the BASBWE Festival. She also regularly performs in Music Societies, with thanks to the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme, around the UK and has given recitals in Iceland, Austria and the USA. As a chamber musician, Jessica is a member of harp and cello duo, Swan Duo, is co-founder of the innovative new chamber ensemble Liquid Architecture and is a member of the prestigious Live Music Now! Scheme. She was also resident cellist on the late Yfrah Neaman International Violin Summer School. In 2003 Jessica won the Charles Halle Award/Oglesby Charitable Trust and earlier this year she accepted a job-share with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to this Jessica regularly works with many of the leading orchestras including the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Halle Orchestra. She has recorded for Naxos, EMI, Sony, Deutsche Gramophone and most recently appeared in Sofia, Bulgaria with Vasko Vassilev and the Covent Garden Soloists.
